Clinic Ambassadors share their story for KidTalk Celebration
Our 2021 Clinic Ambassadors are two great kids who now have a brighter future thanks to the help they received at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic. Meet Ava and Logan!
Ava began speech therapy at the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic in 2019. When she first started therapy, she had trouble forming her words to ask for help or to engage with her peers and family members had trouble understanding her. After a year and a half of weekly therapy with therapist Brittany Musholt, MA, CCC-SLP, Ava has graduated from the Clinic with skills in the normal range. Her confidence has grown and she is quite the chatterbox-bringing smiles to everyone she meets!
Logan entered the Walker Scottish Rite Clinic in 2018 as a part of the KidTalk Language Group. After a semester of group therapy, he moved to individual therapy with therapist Ali Manahan, MA, CCC-SLP, and he showed improvements in following directions and pronouncing words more clearly. In December 2019, however, Ali noticed a regression in Logan’s skills. In early 2020, Logan was diagnosed with Neurofibromatosis 1 (NF1), an incurable, though non-life-threatening condition that causes tumors on nerve endings. This condition makes tumors grow on Logan’s brain and behind his eyes that affects his vision. He began chemotherapy to help treat the tumors. Logan is a superhero! He is a special kid who sneaks his way into your heart and takes up permanent residence.
To help support children like Ava and Logan, and to hear more success stories like these, we’d like to invite you to attend the 2021 KidTalk Celebration on November 13, 2021.
